Drama Education  Reading  Sustainable Development Goals  Gamified Learning: How to Enhance Students' Interest in Sustainable Development Goals

21st Century Classroom

Overview

Sustainable development has become a focal issue in recent years. In 2015, the United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were unanimously agreed upon by all member states.

In this open lesson, the speaker will use drama-based teaching methods and books to guide students, enhancing their interest in sustainable education and broadening their global perspectives. The class will showcase successful examples of drama teaching techniques such as still image, thought tracking, questioning characters, and conscience alley. These methods create scenarios for students to experience the environment of the time and empathise with different stakeholders. This, in turn, fosters a personal connection and response to the goals of sustainable education.

Outline of this open lesson:
1. Share students' learning processes through videos and data analysis to demonstrate their achievements through gamified learning;
2. Showcase how the curriculum materials designed by this school enhance students' learning motivation; and
3. Introduce a series of books (related to Sustainable Development Goals) and how they have been successfully integrated into drama education.

Participants of this open lesson will understand:
1.how to integrate drama, reading, and education for sustainable development into an interdisciplinary curriculum;
2.how to use drama pedagogy and reading to develop students' various abilities (self-directed learning, collaborative learning, problem-solving); and
3.how to effectively increase student interest and self-directed learning in sustainable development goals.
