National Education Forum: Fostering a Sense of National Identity in Students

Overview

National Education is an important component of values education in schools, with an objective to nurture young people into quality citizens who have a sense of belonging to our country, a sense of national identity and social responsibility. National Identity is listed in one of the seven learning goals of across primary and secondary education of Hong Kong.

National Education covers various interlocking areas, including Chinese history and our nation’s development, Chinese culture, geography, Constitution and Basic Law education, as well as National Security Education. Learning elements of National Education are infused in various subjects, such as General Studies for primary schools, Chinese History as well as Citizenship and Social Development for secondary schools.

The aim of the session was to give audience
1. Deeper understanding of the perspectives of National Education.
2. Give reference to the audience about the practices of National Education in Hong Kong and other country
3. Understand how the educational approach towards implementing national education in Singapore, and reflect what Hong Kong can learn from experience.
