Blue Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Empowering Future Leaders through STEAM Education

InnoSTEMer

Overview

In the presentation, the speaker will introduce the Blue School Project, which promotes sustainability through innovative education. The curriculum covers marine conservation, blue productivity and economy, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The program has been launched in 10 local schools and aims to expand to others, including those in the Greater Bay Area.

The Blue School Project provides students with a comprehensive perspective on industry, academia, and research. It includes site visits to laboratories in universities and tech companies, and invites distinguished scientists and entrepreneurs as guest lecturers and mentors. The programme aims to inspire innovative and entrepreneurial mindsets and empower students with leadership skills.

Blue School Project is an innovative and forward-looking programme that enhances the impact through collaboration. Under the leadership of Principal Patrick Lam, Lutheran Academy actively promotes innovation and environmental protection. The school has joined the Blue School Project as a pilot school, participating in training alongside four other pilot schools. This includes classroom learning, visits to technology companies, outdoor field studies, research and development projects, business feasibility studies, and communication skills training.

The convener of EduVision, Principal Yip Chun Yin, alongside like-minded primary school principals, founded EduVision to help students learn and grow. They aim to integrate career planning education with a focus on ocean-related knowledge and ecological conservation in Hong Kong primary schools. EduVision promotes a collaborative school community where secondary schools assist primary schools, and primary schools support kindergartens. Five pilot secondary schools will guide primary students in understanding ocean-related knowledge and careers. Dr Lam will share how students were inspired and reflected on their learning, and Principal Yip will discuss the integration of these outcomes into students' career planning.

Participants in this seminar will learn:
● blue innovation and entrepreneurship: Understanding the relationship between the ocean, human society, economy, and environment
● how to establish adversity mindset and innovation: How to foster the next generation's capacity to turn global crises into sustainable development opportunities through STEAM education.
● the benefits and value of cross-disciplinary educational collaboration.
