AI Education for Kids

Overview

A series of three courses of teaching AI skills to a group of gifted primary school kids have been developed and delivered. The first one was launched in 2020, and it was the first ever AI course for primary kids in Hong Kong to the best of our knowledge. Each of the three courses lasts for around nine months. The courses develop tools and pedagogical features for gifted primary kids in Hong Kong. In this challenging task of teaching AI to gifted kids, the speaker’s team gain invaluable experience and insights in using techniques such as gamification and storytelling. The speaker’s team also successfully included interesting elements such as Chinese culture stories into the teaching of AI to the young generation.

The project was very well received by the community and had significant initial impact in educating our younger generations, and showed great potential in contributing to, and impacting on, the nurturing of AI talents for Hong Kong in the longer run.　The project was very well received by the community, attracting hundreds of applicants. Very positive learning outcomes were achieved in AI knowledge and skills, coding abilities, problem-solving skills, teamwork and presentation skills. A set of ready to use teaching tools and course designs for the teaching of AI to primary school kids is established.

3. available support, course designs, and teaching tools available from this project
