The Use of Virtual and Real Field Trips for Blended Learning

InnoSTEMer

Overview

The learning effectiveness of field study has been proved by different research. In recent years, field study in a virtual setting has become popular because of technological advancement, the promotion of e-learning and blended learning, as well as the changing context brought about by the pandemic. This project aims to explore how virtual field trips can be used in different settings to enhance the teaching and learning of geography and related subjects in secondary and tertiary education. Two virtual field trip teaching and learning packages are being developed using VR CAVE, ArcGIS StoryMaps, and 360 virtual tour platform. The virtual field trips highlight the industrial development and industrial heritage in the Greater Bay Area of China, using the manufacturing industry as an example. This seminar will share what the project is about and explore how the packages can be used for supporting e-learning and blended learning of geography and related subjects.
