Learn Computational Thinking through Gamification and Experience the Fun of Game Programming

InnoSTEMer

Overview

In this seminar, the speaker will introduce gamified learning and computational thinking through the creation of games on the Nintendo Switch using graphical programming. The seminar will cover the concepts and principles of gamified learning, how to use graphical programming tools for game design and development, and include sharing of teaching methods and student projects to demonstrate how gamified learning can enhance students' computational thinking abilities.

The speaker has successfully implemented gamified learning in extracurricular activities in primary and secondary schools. Students have used graphical programming to create games on the Nintendo Switch, fostering their computational thinking abilities and creativity. Through the game design process, they have learnt problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and programming concepts. Additionally, students have shown high levels of motivation and engagement, actively creating and sharing their game projects, demonstrating a genuine interest in learning.

Participants of this seminar will:
1. learn how to apply the principles and methods of gamified learning to enhance students' computational thinking abilities and motivation to learn.
2. explore the integration of game design into primary and secondary education to cultivate students' programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and creativity.
3. gain insights from the student projects, witnessing the learning outcomes and performances resulting from gamified learning, and find inspiration for feasible teaching strategies.
