‘Jubiniversity’: A New Dimension of Student-led Learning for the 21st Century

Student Empowerment Theatre

Overview

After visiting the Wings Agora School in the Netherlands, nine teachers from the speaker’s school were inspired by the local autonomous learning model and established the 'Jubilee Academy' initiative to promote student-directed learning through educational innovation.

Under the guidance of a teacher team, students set learning objectives based on their interests and plan and implement learning activities. Students not only learn to master academic knowledge in response to authentic needs but also translate their motivation and skills into academic learning. They explore personal interests in real-life contexts, engage in in-depth personal reflection, and enhance their motivation and sense of accomplishment.

This seminar aims to offer deep insights to other teachers on how to reimagine school education to address the issue of inadequate student motivation. Jubiniversity not only boosts students' motivation but also provides teachers with new insights into teaching content and methods. Students rediscover the joy and accomplishment of learning through practical experiences, while teachers see new meanings in education through the growth of their students.

Participants of this seminar will understand:

1. the importance of student-led learning and its impact on student motivation;
2. how to design and implement learning plans based on student interest; and
3. how to improve school curricula and teaching methods through student-led projects.
