The Exploration and Practice of Science Education under the Guidance of Interdisciplinary Concept

Well-being & Inclusive Learning Theatre

Overview

In the 21st century where knowledge is exploding and information is spreading rapidly, Interdisciplinary Learning being an innovative educational model is gradually becoming an effective way to cultivate students' overall quality and promote the healthy development of body and mind. Interdisciplinary learning encourages students to transcend the boundaries of traditional disciplines and to integrate knowledge, skills and approaches from different fields to solve complex problems and to develop the comprehensive talents needed to adapt to future societies. Under the guidance of theme-based projects, the speaker’s team has formed the interdisciplinary community teaching and research model, the‘Four-cross-four-together’ teaching model and the interdisciplinary competence model of students, designing curriculum activities with different levels and objectives, arranging teaching contents from various angles, means and levels, adopting various forms of investigation, professional experience and social service, etc. , to create an operable and feasible ‘Theme Project’ curriculum.

In this research, the team uses the new concept of four-cross-regions, cross-schools, cross-disciplines and cross-sections to construct a cross-disciplinary education community under the guidance of the theme project, and carry out innovative practice to enrich Students' learning experience. Education community as such can improve teaching quality, ensuring students gain during the process and can integrating what they have learnt into society and nature so as to promote students' healthy development and enhance students' ability to deal with future uncertainties. With the help of the curriculum development experience of ‘Children's view of flying feathers’, the research group has developed 12 innovative cases, new theme projects and integrated multi-disciplines by using the iterative mode to drive the member schools of the community to carry out four-span and four-joint collaborative practice. It realises the complementary advantages of the strong schools and the help of the weak schools, and forms a school-based operational and feasible cross-subject ‘Subject Project’ curriculum.

Participants of this seminar will understand:

1. how to improve students' problem-solving skills
2. how to conduct interdisciplinary science education; and
3. how to promote the overall development of students' physical and mental health.
