When Art Meets STEM: Project Learning with Innovation and Invention

Overview

The speaker’s team integrates Art (A) into STEM education systematically in their school these years. In this seminar, the speakers will share some experiences and concepts behind it. The speakers have also proposed a design process which emphasising creativity and problem-solving skill to help students invent. In practice, they will share some learning experiences using this design process in an international competition and a Primary 6 project in their school.

Under the guidance of teachers, students conducted an inquiry and invention which follow their designed process. They applied AI technology to help improve the lives of patients with dementia and the elderly in general. Finally students won the gold award at the Hong Kong Science Fair, and was invited to represent Hong Kong to join 'International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva'. Apart from this, the speakers also systematically arranges similar project in P.6 to extend the learning opportunities to all students.　

Participants of this seminar will understand:
1. how the team designed the Process and how the team applied it in the teaching; and
2. how the team combines 'STEAM' and 'self-directed learning' in the project-based learning in this school.
