Overview

This school’s Physical Education Department and the Centre for Intelligent Multidimensional Data Analysis (CIMDA) at the City University of Hong Kong have developed the 'Sports Assessment System' and the 'AI Running System': easy-to-use and affordable technologies that provide an immersive digital sports experience for students while allowing teachers to accurately monitor their progress.

The sports assessment system uses a lightweight ankle strap to track users' performance on warm-up exercises like jump rope and push-ups. It gamifies the warm-up, with exercise quality and speed directly impacting simulated competition results, enhancing students' motivation and exercise engagement.

The AI running system focuses on monitoring runners' time and speed. Users wear an identification badge, and the pre-installed track cameras can automatically and accurately detect their running data, even with 35+ runners. This allows the system to instantly rank participants from fastest to slowest, helping coaches easily track progress.

Both systems aim to leverage technology to create more immersive, trackable physical education experiences that boost student participation and empower teachers to provide more personalised guidance. The goal is to introduce new technologies into the school's physical education curriculum, providing teachers with a more efficient and accurate solution for the daily complex and heavy assessment work, while also offering students a more interesting and effective physical education programme. Furthermore, the system is also applicable for schools to conduct training sessions with more than 35 participants. The system can assist in physical fitness training in such scenarios. Since the system is not limited by the users' movement speed, it can still automatically evaluate and instantly display the performance results of each user, even in situations with a large number of participants. This allows coaches and athletes to more easily monitor the training progress and make immediate improvements.
