Overview
In this seminar, speakers will share how the synergistic effects of traditional support and innovative technologies can enhance the learning efficiency of students with special educational needs (SEN). Traditional support methods such as Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and professional counselling provide a solid foundation for SEN students. With the advancement of technology, the emergence of innovative technologies such as applications, big data, and artificial intelligence is significantly improving teaching and support effectiveness and student and parental engagement.
The speaker will share how the ‘Artificial Intelligence Special Education Talent Database System’ uses artificial intelligence to analyse students' past academic and talent performance data, such as academic grades inside and outside school, activity participation, achievement awards, interests, personality traits, and behaviours. This system helps teachers more accurately assess, evaluate, and advise students with special educational needs on their academic strengths and weaknesses, career development directions, and internal support situations. The system reduces the repetitive administrative paperwork related to special educational needs for the school's student support team, allowing professionals more time to teach, train, and counsel students with special needs and promote school-wide engagement.
On the other hand, the system provides AI-generated insights based on the analysis of student performance. Teachers can use these insights as references to enhance students' weaknesses or further strengthen their strengths, enabling targeted learning interventions. For instance, an AI English-speaking learning tool reinforces individual students' English pronunciation and vocabulary usage. The system employs AI to assist SEN students in practising English speaking skills, with each practice session's results instantly visible to teachers and parents. Teachers can track the English learning progress of each SEN student through the platform, while parents can assist students with practice at home. As a result, there is seamless coordination between in-school and out-of-school learning progress, fostering collaboration.
Currently, the Student Support Team at TWGHs Kwok Yat Wai College is utilising a system to support teachers and students by managing data of SEN students. This system enables the Special Educational Needs Coordinator to track and understand the current support situation of students easily. Additionally, the ‘Artificial Intelligence Special Education Talent Database System’ assists the SEN coordinator in analysing various information about students' past performances, aiding teachers in assessing and advising on the career development direction of SEN students. In the future, the school will provide students with relevant industry job shadowing experiences based on the recommendations derived from the data.
